Designer Cynthia Rowley and Artist Olef Breuning Create Wearable Art!

Cynthia Rowley is serious about her art, and not in the “flip through an Art Now! Vol. 3 Taschen book, mention it at cocktail parties” seriously, either.

Rowley, an avid art collector who performs charity work within the arts (and married a gallery co-owner for good measure), took her passion one step further last weekend when she created a temporary installation for MOVE! at the MoMA alongside artist Olaf Breunin.

The event included installations and performances by fourteen luminary pairings of designer and artist:

Rob Pruitt and Marc Jacobs, Terence Koh and Italo Zucchelli (Calvin Klein Collection), Kalup Linzy and Diane Von Furstenberg, Brody Condon and Rodarte, Rashaad Newsome and Alexander Wang, Jonah Bokaer and Narciso Rodriguez, and Dan Colen and Proenza Schouler.

Cynthia and Olaf’s installation used models in denim garments as a canvas upon which paint was lavishly dumped. Picture Jackson Pollack under contract to slime people at “The Kids’ Choice Awards.”

Each garment was created in real-time with a corresponding photo.

Granted, you may not be able to afford any of the pieces at the MoMA, (or in that aforementioned Taschen book) but you probably can afford one of the 100 one-of-a-kind denim pieces available for purchase at

Finally, you can become a true patron of the arts.
