Designer Spotlight: Kelly Locke

It’s awards season which means a lot of luxe evening bags will continue to adorn the arms of A-listers through Oscar night. In the past, these stylists to the stars selected Fendi, Bottega, YSL or some other established European house without a second thought. But this year? Perhaps not.

Meet Kelly Locke, the new handbag IT designer of the year. But instead of hailing from Pars or Milan, his luxury handbag line is based in the beautiful (minus the smog and freeways) city of Los Angeles. Working in precious and luxurious exotic skins such as anaconda, lizard, crocodile, python and baby hair calf as well as distressed lambskin, the Kelly Locke Handbag Collection embodies seductive modern glamour. The are also entirely handmade in the U.S. by L.A. artisans, and use exotic skins, semi-precious gemstones and sterling silver details.

We are partial to this lipstick-red mini “Bardot” clutch in anaconda but check out the rest of Kelly Locke’s spring line here. And remember, you don’t have to snag a little gold man statue to be worthy of one–a box-office paycheck couldn’t hurt though (blockbuster, not indie).

Prices range from $395 for a small clutch in metallic kidskin to $2,595 for a large hobo in suede crocodile and are available at high-end boutiques and online at
