The Pleat Guide To . . . Winter Skin!

The Pleat, being an east coast based operation, has been an itchy, flaky victim of dry indoor heat and harsh outdoor winds all winter. So when we had a chance to talk to Roxy snow team rider and freeskier, Sarah Burke, we cross examined her as if we were the skin-care Gestapo.  Here’s her scoop on how not to look like a slab of dried mango:

“I travel constantly and being in the cold and wind makes my skin really dry. To avoid sun spots and keep my skin even and bright, I like to use Garnier face wipe towelettes followed by a Claudalie serum. Garnier also makes a 24-hour gel that seems to lock in the moisture and keep the wear-and-tear on my skin at a minimum.

To protect my skin from the intense conditions on the mountains I use Neutrogena 55 SPF over  Dermalogica’s Barrier Gel. It really is like a barrier for the bad stuff and it feels so nice and soft when you put it on.

At night I use a simple Olay night cream on my eyes, that is really rich and smells great, as well as Kiehl’s night oil. It’s a great moisturizer and has a nice lavender scent that helps me sleep.

Last but not least is my lip care regimen. During the day I use a Kiss My Face lip balm with SPF 30. Everyone always forgets their lips, but up there on the hill, with the reflection off the snow, the sun is stronger than ever. And before I go to bed, I apply Neosporin Night Repair lip balm because my lips get so dry and chapped from the high elevation. This stuff really works!”

If you’ve been livin’ la vida frio like us, and your face is paying the price, take another look at Ms. Sarah. What’s good enough for hours spent on the mountain has got be good enough for hours spent in the cubicle!
