Street Pleat: Skinny Jeans

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

It’s hard to get that perfectly relaxed comfortable look that doesn’t include a pair of sweatpants. May we suggest taking some pointers from Mr. Newton’s street muse? Nothing like a crisp light wash skinny jean paired with textured black pieces to keep you comfortable while looking chic. The only maintenance required is a quick brush of the hair and the added pop of color from a coral lip, and you are ready for anything.   1. Madewell “Secret” striped tee, $45, 2. Vince “Fringed” boucle jacket, $395, 3. Victoria Beckham...

Q&A: Street Photographer, Craig Arend

Sunday, January 29, 2012

We caught up with our friend and photographer Craig Arend founder of Altamiranyc to pick his brain about street style, models and the snap that makes him most proud. How did you get your start shooting models off duty? I first shot Andrew Bevan, a Teen Vogue editor at an Agyness Deyn party. Then 6 months later after shooting him at fashion week and posting his photo, I got an email saying, “I was having such a horrible day and looking at that pic cheered me up because its a great photo (one of the best ever taken of me). ” Then he asked me to stream him photos of people from...

Jean-Michel Cazabat Brings Soles To Bleeker

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Last week we mingled with one of our favorite shoe designers, Jean-Michel Cazabat, to celebrate the opening of his flagship store at 350 Bleeker Street, in the heart of Manhattan’s posh Greenwich Village. There was Champagne to be sipped and Canapes from Indochine to keep us from getting smashed. Great music by DJ David De Barceand a cast of  ‘It’ peeps to get us reved up and ready to buy our favorite things… SHOES! But the best part was the watching the French footwear designer sign the bottom of shoes. Check out the images below.        Read More

The Mini

Isn’t everything mini just soo much cuter? OK maybe not everything (wink wink)! But for the love of our bodies we are absolutely psyched on the notion of downsizing our shoulder loads to just the bare necessities. Studies show that women that carry their lives in their purse, also carry a sloped shoulder full of aches. If you don’t want to take our advice, take it from the Alexander McQueen (may he rest with the style gods), Alexander Wang and the rest of the... Read More

Blogger Style: Peony Lim

Peony Lim is yet another style blogger that we’ve taken to following.  Lim studied Fashion Promotion at London University of Arts and her knack for style led her to be photographed by streetstyle photographers outside of her school. It was at that point where she decided to start PeonyLim back in 2010. Peony’s Chinese and English background is apparent in her dressing. She always looks polished and fresh without the “stuffy” air that is often found... Read More

Designer Profile: Timo Weiland

During Spring 2010 Fashion Week, we Pleaters had the pleasure of stumbling upon a refined, well-manicured line that we inevitably knew would emerge as “one to watch”. The presentation depicted a tightly-edited collection of both men’s and women’s polished, modern and romantic downtown dandy dressing. The one to watch: Timo Weiland. Timo Weiland is the collaboration of Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein. Having met while interning in the fashion industry, both parties... Read More

Karen Walker’s New UV Lookbook (Featuring Albino Models)

One of our favorite designers Karen Walker totally delivers with her new UV Lookbook. Past lookbooks have featured a variety of inspirations including one memorable vampire themed shoot. This time Walker and husband Mikhail Gherman do futuristic style shots featuring albino models to show off the unique color blocked sunnies. The contrast of the models to the brightly hued frames is a stunning display for the line. “Albinos are generally required to stay out of the... Read More

Trend: Minimalism

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially fashion and more than often, music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. Fashion has seen a counter these last few years and with a plethora of studs and embellishments, fur and fringe, it seems that opulence and “caking things on” has become somewhat of a norm. Piled on prints plus layers upon layers of chains, finished off with an armful of friendship bracelets... Read More

WTF Wednesday: Pocket Pillow

So… One of our genius graphic designers brought this little nugget of joy to our attention while we were in pursuit of another WTF entry. Now, while we’re grateful, we’re also wondering if this is just his roundabout way of telling us he thinks we need a break. But then it hit us, he just wanted to try the damn thing! What’s that you ask? Why, it’s the pocket pillow! Once again somebody out there has managed to make our heads turn and jaws drop,... Read More

Model Off Duty: Abbey Lee

We’ve already fallen for this Aussie beauty a couple times now. A couple months ago we obsessed over her shoot with V magazine and now we can’t help but drool over her great “laissez-faire” taste. There isn’t much to contest about her style, except that maybe some of us aren’t huge fans of fur. Regardless, [...]

Nostalgia: Hypercolor Shirts

We are mildly obsessed with some of the ingenius fashion items of the 80′s and 90′s. Maybe because it was all candy and roses and everyone was loaded and happy back then. Or because it was just downright weird? Who knows. Who cares. Let’s just mentally frolic back to our hypercolor tees and their heat [...]
